With an outstanding CGPA of 4.80/5.00, Arthur Enwelum, a talented Nigerian student, earned a first-class Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
In addition to receiving other noteworthy honours, such as the Dean’s Prize and the Engr. Oludare Ogunlade Academic Prize for Excellence, his outstanding academic achievement won him the department’s Overall Best Graduating Student Award.
Through perseverance, faith, and the steadfast support of his family, friends, and mentors, Arthur overcame obstacles like a two-year delay in his cohort’s graduation. As he reflected on his experience, he gave thanks to God and acknowledged the IEEE Student Branch, CASOR UNILAG, and the Engineering Students Christian Association (ESCA) as inspiring communities.
Arthur accomplished a lot while he was an undergraduate, including winning three scholarships, working as an intern at Chevron Nigeria Limited and TotalEnergies, and, for his senior thesis, creating a cutting-edge electronic navigation system for a blind student. In addition, he coordinated free tutorials to support his classmates’ academic success and held the position of Assistant Robotics Team Lead for the IEEE Student Branch.
Arthur gave undergraduates advise, stressing the value of integrating academic brilliance with practical knowledge and moral integrity. “While strong character and in-depth knowledge maintain opportunities, good grades open doors.” Above all, use your education to honour God,” he added.
Arthur’s tale serves as an example of how perseverance, faith, and community support may lead to amazing accomplishment.
