104 new students were welcomed to the school during the ceremony, which had as its subject “Learners to Leaders: Knowledge, Enterprise, and Growth.” Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, the guest speaker, gave a perceptive speech highlighting the value of education, research, and innovation in developing the next generation of leaders.
Professor Iheanyichukwu Okoro, the vice chancellor, challenged the new students to maintain both academic brilliance and moral integrity in his introductory remarks. He emphasised HUST’s quick expansion, pointing to rising student enrolment and continuous infrastructural improvements, such as a new School of Basic Medical Sciences building in Ibadan and better learning tools including a sizable e-library. He said that the university is dedicated to offering a comprehensive education that combines instruction in entrepreneurship, ethics, and intellectual pursuits.

In her message of goodwill, Chancellor Professor Emeritus Funmi Togonu-Bickersteth urged the incoming students to take use of the opportunities and aim for leadership in their disciplines. She restated the institution’s goal of turning forth graduates who are not only informed but also creative and socially conscious. Mr. Joseph “Laoye Jaiyeola,” the institution’s founder and pro-chancellor, further underlined the school’s dedication to developing students’ critical thinking and practical problem-solving abilities.
The official introduction of students through the matriculation oath, conducted by University Registrar Dr. Mercy Agumadu, was a major feature of the program. Speaking to the students, she underlined the importance of the oath as a commitment to preserve academic discipline and the university’s ideals. After the recitation, the students were formally accepted by the vice chancellor, who urged them to pursue their academic goals with responsibility and effort.
