How to Detect Fake Chemicals and Reagents
In a country where fake is everywhere and relatively cheap, you’d think you cut a good bargain.
Often, we get calls in on our customer care telephone lines, they bought the chemicals and reagents perhaps agar or even indicators, they carried out the experiment, they got everything right except the projected results. They failed!
I thought perhaps, the chemicals they got was old and stale until my time in one of Nigeria’s biggest market, see boys packaging chemicals, labelling it, sealing it, in fact branding it. I just forgot my mouth open.
Years later, we now import our chemicals, reagents and everything laboratory from UK, USA and India. We started correcting this error and we are glad to say, we are making a huge difference.
So for you dear researcher, do not be carried away by cheapies. Trust me, many won’t work o. There are things to watch out for before you pick up sensitive materials like a chemical pack from any store. One of such things is the batch number.
