“I will Succeed despite my Size.”, FUOYE Undergraduate.

Jumoke Olatunji, a 19-year-old undergraduate student at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), is determined to succeed despite her small size. She seems lot younger than she actually is, yet she is still focused on achieving her goals. She claims that her height does not define her abilities or set her apart from other people.

She talked about her background, goals, difficulties, and the recent scholarship that transformed her academic path in an interview.

Jumoke is originally from Igbara Odo in Ekiti State, but he was born and reared in Ibadan, Oyo State. Her mother is a teacher, while her father is a fashion designer. She is the oldest of three children in the family. She embraces her height as a necessary component of God’s plan for her life, even though she is far shorter than her parents and siblings.

She has had to deal with questions and misconceptions about her appearance all of her life. She is frequently mistaken for a youngster by strangers in public, who believe she is with an adult. Instead of becoming disheartened, she laughs it off and concentrates on her objectives.

Jumoke had a confident approach to college life. She asked to be included to the class group for updates from the class governor on her first day at FUOYE. She didn’t find out till much later that some classmates had surreptitiously snapped her photos and posted them online. She gained widespread recognition on campus over time and cheerfully accepted the spotlight.

She had originally intended to study theatre arts, but after failing to meet the necessary cut-off point, she changed her major to linguistics and languages. She still has a strong love for the stage, though, and thinks she may pursue acting in the future. She hopes that her degree will enable her to work in a variety of industries, such as the entertainment sector, legal companies, and hospitals.

Jumoke is not interested in romantic relationships, in contrast to many of her peers. She claims that at this point in her life, she does not have a partner and does not consider getting one. Rather, her academic achievement and personal development continue to be her top priorities.

When a fellow student conducted an interview with her and posted her tale online, her academic path took a dramatic shift. Barrister Yemi Ayeni, a Nigerian philanthropist, became aware of the video when it swiftly became viral. He called her out of the blue to tell her that he had decided to pay for her schooling. Despite her initial scepticism, she verified his identification and informed her mother, who was ecstatic.

She received the scholarship, which pays for tuition, housing, and other costs, from Barrister Ayeni during FUOYE’s 9th Convocation Ceremony. Additionally, the university promised to cover her expenses for food and other necessities while she was enrolled. She was proud to meet the Vice-Chancellor at the award ceremony, especially since some had questioned her capacity to achieve such success.

Successful actors like Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, also known as Aki and Pawpaw, serve as sources of inspiration for Jumoke. She thinks she can succeed if they can overcome obstacles and reach greatness.

She encourages young people to never give up on their aspirations and to remain resolute. She highlights the value of tenacity and recalls taking the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam three times prior to being admitted. She is still committed to earning a First Class degree at FUOYE in spite of her financial difficulties.

Jumoke appreciates friendships that are direct and honest. She detests deceit, dishonesty, and sly behaviour. She likes to sing, see films, and listen to music when she has free time. Her flatmate Joy, a committed biochemistry student whose study habits inspire her to strive intellectually, is another source of inspiration for her.

She either chooses to ignore them or gently requests that their parents step in when younger kids make fun of her appearance.

She would want to thank the university administration, the vice chancellor, the pro chancellor, and most importantly, Barrister Yemi Ayeni, for his kindness. Her parents, her department head, Dr. Oladimeji Olaide, the VC’s personal assistant on student affairs, the student who went viral with her story, and her encouraging housemate and classmates are all acknowledged.

Jumoke is steadfast in her conviction that nothing should prevent success in spite of the difficulties she has encountered.
