The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has approved the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Igbinedion University in Okada, Edo State, for the final midwifery professional examinations.
Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, announced this approval on November 30, 2024, during the award ceremony for higher and honorary degrees for the 2023/2024 academic session.
A total of 138 students received higher degrees, including 45 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 77 Master’s degrees, and 16 Postgraduate Diplomas. The CBT facility has already hosted its first examination and will serve as a testing centre for other schools in the region.
The university has also embarked on campus-wide digitalisation, integrating information and communication technology into both academic and administrative functions.
The university’s admission quotas have also increased, with approval from various regulatory councils, including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
Professor Ezemonye highlighted that the university’s medical programs are growing, with increased quotas reflecting the high quality of training and the confidence that regulatory bodies have in the institution. Igbinedion University also produced 855 graduands this year, with 45 students earning first-class honours degrees.
The Chancellor, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, urged graduates to seize global opportunities with creativity and innovation. The event included the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science degree on Dr. Theresa Freeman Wang, a consultant gynaecologist, and a convocation lecture by Prof. Egle Lastauskiene from Vilnius University in Lithuania.
