Nigerians have resurrected the contentious issue of Mmesoma Ejikeme, unearthing an old video in which she presented her contested 2023 UTME result, after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) recent admission of a system malfunction that affected the scores of thousands of students.
Mmesoma claimed a score of 362 in 2023, which she said she obtained from the JAMB website. She did, however, acknowledge under duress that she had manipulated her score and that it was really 249 after a well-publicized probe. The case garnered national attention and sparked contentious discussions over institutional integrity and student accountability.
Old allegations have now surfaced again when JAMB revealed in May that more than 1.5 million applicants received scores below 200 in the 2025 tests as a result of a computer glitch that mostly affected students in Lagos and the South-East.

People on social media are wondering whether Mmesoma’s confession was forced and if her outcome really represented a systemic error rather than intentional falsification. The fire has been fuelled by an old video of her clutching what she said was a printed result from the official webpage.
@dangbanamanager, an X user, shared:
So, is there a chance that they altered this girl’s outcome behind the scenes? JAMB has repeatedly shown that it is unreliable when it comes to something as important as a test that affects thousands of people’s futures. This has already led to a youngster taking their own life.
Additional responses on the internet include:
@doziecuit: “The outcome was manipulated for this girl. I still stand by what I stated back then. Despite her innocence, she lacked backing. @AdekunleOderind: “Our educational system has problems, but we have a big problem when the test body’s legitimacy is called into doubt. How many previous failures were caused by bugs? @godknowsme: “Mmesoma could have been under pressure when she acknowledged falsifying her results. She deserves an apology from JAMB.
@TheOlizhe: “Yes, in 2023, Mmesoma used a 2021 outcome format. It was a fake. However, JAMB’s current behaviour demonstrates a high level of ineptitude. The two realities can coexist.
The public’s confidence in JAMB is declining as demands for accountability grow. A transparent examination of previous and present UTME results is being demanded by critics, who fear that system errors may have impacted thousands more people than officially recognised.
