July 18th: JAMB 2024 cut-off point and admission policy meeting.

The JAMB Policy Meeting on Tertiary Admissions is scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024. The Hon. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will lead the meeting, which will include other key education stakeholders.

These critical stakeholders include regulatory agency heads like the National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), tertiary institution heads, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Admission policy meetings set the tone for each year’s admission process and criteria. It also provides application statistics, candidate performance evaluations, and the minimum admissions standards for all Nigerian tertiary institutions for the year.

The Registrar will report on the recently completed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications and analyze key performance indicators that could influence government admission policy. The forum would also inform stakeholders of key issues from last year’s admissions.

The policy meeting will also consider candidates’ UTME results to set the year’s minimum permissible score. In the previous year, stakeholders agreed on the minimum admission criteria for universities, polytechnics, and colleges.

The meeting would also determine the year’s admission requirements, start the admission process, discuss unresolved issues from the previous academic year, assess stakeholders’ compliance with advisories and suggest further amendments. We’ll report all meeting developments that day, as usual.
