Kaduna State University (KASU) was thrown into confusion on Thursday, following conflicting statements about the status of the present strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) KASU chapter.
During a press meeting, Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, the University’s vice-chancellor said that the strike had been called off and that classes would start up again right away. He attributed this outcome to the involvement of Governor Uba Sani, who released N146 million in SIWES-related back pay and allowances as well as a N50 million welfare package for personnel.

Professor Musa hailed the governor’s dedication to staff welfare, education, and students, calling the action “an unprecedented act of courage.” Additionally, he said that a reconciliation committee had been established to engage in negotiations with all University unions, with Dr. Hadiza Balarabe serving as its head. ASUU-KASU swiftly disputed the Vice-Chancellor’s assertion, nevertheless. The union maintained that the strike had not been halted in a statement signed by Secretary Comrade Peter M. Waziri and Acting Chairman Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi.
The union urged the public to ignore the VC’s declaration, saying, “The University management is not the body that declared the strike and thus lacks the authority to call it off.”
