Kano University Suspends Student

Kano Uni suspends student for campus proposal

The institution suspended Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a second-year Computer Science student at Al-Istiqama in Sumaila, Kano, for involvement in immoral conduct on campus. The situation occurred when Mansur openly proposed to a female student, an action considered unacceptable by the university officials.

Mansur faced suspension after a viral video showed him presenting a crimson bouquet to a female student on campus, leading to enthusiastic applause from other students.. Nevertheless, the female student declined the bouquet.

The university responded by issuing a suspension notice to Mansur, stating that his acts were in conflict with the ideals of the school. The notification (Ref. no. AUS/REG/54) issued on May 14, 2024, and signed by Deputy Registrar Sani A. Usman, announced the formation of a disciplinary commission tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the situation.

The notification stated that Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a student from the Department of Computer Science with registration number AUS/SCC/COM/22/1018, faced suspension for inappropriate conduct on campus.

An insider from the university administration said that Mansur had been previously cautioned for exhibiting similar conduct. The source highlighted the university’s commitment to its faith-based ideals, which defend Islamic and Hausa traditional traditions.

“The boy has been found with that character before.” According to the source, there have been two earlier instances when the institution specifically invited the student, but he declined to exercise care. “Furthermore, it is important to note that the university operates on the basis of religious beliefs, specifically Islam, and this particular behavior goes against the fundamental principles of both Islam and Hausa culture.” That is the reason why the suspension was necessary.

The suspension aims to reinforce the university’s commitment to upholding its principles and ensuring students follow the prescribed code of conduct.
