KWASU Engineers Convert Petrol Vehicle to CNG

The engineering team at Kwara State University (KWASU) has successfully converted a petrol-powered vehicle to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), marking another achievement by the institution’s Centre for Sustainable Energy.

During an inspection of the converted vehicle, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali OON, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, commended the university’s initiative to explore sustainable alternatives to petrol for powering vehicles.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh highlighted the university’s ongoing efforts to address societal challenges through practical innovations.

This recent CNG conversion follows the successful transformation of scrap petrol engine vehicles into electricity-powered ones, further showcasing KWASU’s dedication to promoting greener and sustainable technologies.

The Vice-Chancellor affirmed that these steps align with the university’s mission to contribute to environmental sustainability.

The team of engineers from the Centre for Sustainable Energy explained that using CNG as an alternative fuel offers multiple benefits, including lower fuel costs, improved fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and longer engine life due to cleaner fuel.

This achievement is a testament to KWASU’s commitment to solving key societal challenges through innovation and sustainable practices.
