The renowned Chevening Scholarship has been given to Bagele Moalosi, a resolute African woman, to study for a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at the University of East London in the United Kingdom. Her accomplishment comes seventeen years after she graduated from the University of Botswana in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Her life took her in unexpected ways, despite her initial goal of pursuing a degree in clinical or counselling psychology. She worked in a variety of capacities over the years, occasionally thinking about pursuing additional education in health psychology or public health. She even gave up on going back to school entirely at one point. But in 2023, she felt compelled to pursue further education and found a subject that closely matched her enthusiasm for personal growth and workplace well-being: Positive Psychology Coaching.

Pursuing a master’s degree was difficult due to financial limitations, but Bagele was adamant about realising her goal. She submitted an application for the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s (FCDO) prestigious Chevening Scholarship. Strong leaders who are dedicated to studying in the UK and utilising their degree to make a significant impact back home are sought after for the scholarship.
Bagele emphasised the pressing problem of workplace well-being in Botswana in order to bolster her submission. She emphasised how many workers suffer in silence as a result of mental health issues, stigma in the workplace, and demanding work cultures. She highlighted how the MAPP program will give her the tools to design holistic well-being initiatives and establish psychologically healthy workplaces, drawing on her experience as an Employee Wellness Specialist.
Bagele celebrated the opportunity on LinkedIn, calling it a “dream come true.” She thanked her family, friends, mentors, the British High Commission, and the Chevening Awards for their support during her voyage. She is excited to learn, network, and return with insightful ideas to change workplace well-being in Botswana as she starts her new chapter.
