Following allegations of his suspected murder, Ogubode Adedamola, a 28-year-old Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, had his convocation celebration on April 3, 2025, cruelly cut short. The main suspect in the case has been determined to be a clergyman.
According to investigations, on the day Adedamola was last seen, N1.5 million was taken out of his bank account; the pastor and his daughter were linked to some of the funds. Authorities later found the victim’s body buried next to the church, where they also found an axe and a revolver.
Adedamola, who earned a degree in Political Science Education in 2024, founded Horlar Edu Consultancy, a company that assists LASU students.

His girlfriend, who asked not to be named, claims that Adedamola last spoke with her on January 16, 2025. He promised to give her a call back and indicated that he was close to LASU 2 and the CCC Ileri Oluwa Parish. When the call never arrived, there was instant worry and a police report. The pastor, identified as Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh, denied knowing anything about Adedamola’s location when law enforcement personnel visited the church.
Police found a N1.5 million transfer made on the day of Adedamola’s disappearance after obtaining his bank records as part of the inquiry. The pastor and his daughter’s accounts were linked to some of the money.
The preacher first denied that he had received any money from the deceased. But he allegedly changed his tale after seeing the transaction data, saying the money was Adedamola’s Thanksgiving donation.
In light of these facts, authorities searched the church grounds and found a graphic discovery. Suspicions of foul play were heightened when Adedamola’s body was discovered buried close by and an axe and gun were found at the scene.
Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh has reportedly been arrested, but according to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, no formal confirmation of his detention has been released to the public.
As they deal with the death of a bright young man whose life was cut short just weeks before celebrating his academic accomplishment, the LASU community and Adedamola’s loved ones are in sorrow following the occurrence.
