LASU Safety Guidelines for Students: Essential Tips & Contacts

LASU Guidelines and Safety Advice

During its 305th Statutory Meeting on December 28, 2023, the Lagos State University (LASU) Senate examined and approved critical safety protocols for the students’ welfare. These rules, which are not new and should be strictly followed, are taken from a paper that the Acting Dean of the Students Affairs Division submitted.

Important Safety Procedures for Students at LASU

Identity Verification and Clothes Regulation

  • Identity Card Wearing: You are required to carry your Identity Card off-campus and wear it at all times when on campus.
  • Respecting the Dress Code: Careful attention must be paid to the rules and guidelines set forth by the university regarding attire.

Take Care When Reading at Night

  • Timely Arrival and Departure: If you’re reading at night and using university facilities, make sure to get there early and get out before it gets dark.

Journey and Lodging

  • Safe Transportation: When taking public transportation, stick to the established bus stations and exercise caution when getting into cars that don’t have obvious identification.
  • When selecting a place to stay, look for hostels in neighbourhoods where other students live to feel safer as a group.

Mobility and Group Journeys

  • Preventing Late Night Solitude: It is not recommended to stroll by yourself outside the school gate after 8:00 p.m. Moving in groups is advised instead.
  • Being Alert: Pay close attention, particularly in the vicinity of the LASU Badagry Gate, First Gate, Agboroko, Iyana School, and Alaba Rago.

Interaction and Social Media Behavior

  • Notifying Family and Friends: Whenever you leave your house or hostel, make sure someone knows where you are going.
  • Safe Walking Tips: If you’re going to walk alone, especially at night, stay in well-lit locations.
  • Social Media Privacy: Use caution when disclosing personal information online, such as your home address or phone number.

Exercise caution when interacting with strangers

  • Lift Acceptance: Exercise caution while taking a lift from an unknown individual.

Finally

Remember that everyone has a shared responsibility for your safety, not just the university. Remain vigilant, educated, and safe from harm. Together, let’s turn LASU into a shining example of a safe and encouraging academic environment.
