More than 4000 Original Certificates are delivered to IBBUL.

Professor Sulaiman said that more than 4000 certificates from the UK had been received and that the problem of the certificate backlog was thoroughly discussed at the management level at a meeting with the university’s alumni executive, who paid him a courtesy call.

He counselled graduates who have not yet picked up their diplomas to start the collection process right away.

The Vice Chancellor also talked about how alumni help the university, stressing the importance of openness and responsibility while raising money on its behalf.

He mentioned Harvard University as a model for successful alumni engagement and cited international best practices.

With endowment assets totalling more than $2.3 billion a year, the Alumni Association at Harvard contributes significantly to the expansion of the university. Even though we might not have that capability now, I urge you to begin with something, no matter how modest. Now is the time to start fostering a culture of giving back. What can I do for the university that helped shape who I am now, you ask?

Additionally, Professor Sulaiman emphasised the significance of enlisting outside stakeholders and philanthropists as “Friends of the University.”

We already made contact with the BUA Group and Aliko Dangote. Despite their lack of personal ties to the University, they provided us with invaluable support. Our alumni cannot be our only source of support. Let’s locate and enlist the assistance of people and organisations that can provide it.

Professor Mohammed Aliyu Bello, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, added his voice to the event and underlined the importance of alumni in the growth and funding of universities around the world.

“Alumni are a significant source of support for universities worldwide, as the Vice Chancellor correctly pointed out, and we expect ours at IBB University to follow this global trend,” he said.

Professor Bello emphasised that the support provided by alumni should extend beyond the annual fees that students pay. He questioned, “What are you bringing to the table?”

Sincerely, there hasn’t been any active alumni involvement. In separate remarks, Prince Mohammad Sani Gashash, the National Alumni President, and Comrade Haruna Job, his vice president, urged the delivery of original diplomas for graduates from 2020 onwards and called for a closer, more transparent interaction with the university administration.

They commended the Registrar and other Principal Officers for their unwavering support, particularly during earlier Alumni-led initiatives, and welcomed the Vice Chancellor on his appointment.

They also emphasised how they had met with members of the National Assembly to solicit support for the university. When the alumni project at the student residence halls was finished, the two asked the vice chancellor to be present to commission it.

Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki, the Registrar, expressed gratitude for the Alumni’s continuous solar-powered water project on campus and reiterated the University Management’s commitment to further cooperation in a vote of appreciation.

In order to create a more cohesive and esteemed alumni group, he urged cooperation and appropriate coordination.

Additionally, the Association sent the Vice Chancellor a roll-up banner of congratulations
