The sudden death of Nwachukwu Omiko, a final-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been formally verified by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike MOUAU. Omiko suddenly fell during a casual football game on the university premises. Ubadire Agua, the institution’s chief public relations officer, said in a statement that the event happened unexpectedly on Wednesday and that his fellow students acted quickly to try to revive him before alerting University Health Services.
Sadly, despite the prompt reaction and medical care, Omiko was declared dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia after being swiftly taken there in the university’s oxygen-equipped ambulance. The university community has been rocked by the news of his death, with both teachers and students expressing shock and sadness.

Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, the vice-chancellor, expressed his deepest sympathies to the departed’s friends, family, and coworkers at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. Given Omiko’s intellectual brilliance and bright future, he said his passing was a devastating loss for the institution and the country as a whole.
The administration of the university has responded to the tragedy by urging students to utilise the medical facilities offered by the school when they return and to be aware of their health, particularly before engaging in physically demanding activities. In order to avoid such events in the future, the administration also reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of students and promised to increase campus knowledge of preventative healthcare.
