Lagos State Crowned Overall Best at the 27th National JETS Competition
Lagos State emerged as the overall winner at the 27th National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Competition, held in Abuja. The state clinched the prestigious Best Overall JETS Award and secured top positions in several categories, including the quiz competition. The competition featured 200 students representing 20 states across Nigeria.
During the weeklong event, participants showcased innovative projects such as an automatic fire detection system, an online voting application for Nigerians in the diaspora, and drones designed to mitigate conflicts between farmers and herders.
At the closing ceremony, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of technology and innovation as essential drivers for the country’s socioeconomic development. He encouraged students to harness their talents for the nation’s growth.
Grace Akinfoyiwa, Director of Science and Technology in the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, celebrated the team’s success, attributing it to the students’ dedication and the continued support of the state government.
The JETS competition, which was inaugurated in 1988, aims to expose students to technological advancements and inspire innovative solutions to societal challenges.
