A Nigerian Law School student, Prince, has garnered notice online after posting a WhatsApp broadcast message soliciting a God-fearing female flatmate and listing her tasks.
Prince, who studies at the Nigerian Law School in Enugu, is looking for a flat and a clever, motivated female flatmate who will help with housework.
Prince wrote that his ideal flatmate shares his ideals and is willing to “build something meaningful and mutually beneficial.” He then named 10 tasks, including cooking, laundry, studying, and keeping him emotionally calm and organised.
I am looking for a smart, God-fearing, and loyal female friend/roommate who is driven to build something important, as stated in the message. “We’ll help each other with chores, cook and eat, do homework, and have productive fun.”
He said he would handle the finances.
A screenshot of the remark uploaded by X user @bossladycookist went viral, eliciting various emotions online. Many users questioned his intentions, criticising gender-specific assumptions and mocking about his flatmate search.
Some felt the request odd and improper, while others saw it as a sign of the stress and loneliness many law students experience.
