The prestigious Pen Resource University, Gombe, celebrated a major turning point on March 4, 2024, when it adopted a new name: North-Eastern University, Gombe. Our esteemed father, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, Emir of Gombe and Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, presided over a ceremony marking this momentous development.
The History and Prospects
The acclaimed Pen Resource Academy, Gombe—a shining example of academic brilliance, morality, and ethics in the North-Eastern area and across Nigeria—is the ancestor of North-Eastern University, Gombe. The goal of this academy-to-university transition was to capitalize on the reputation for quality, honesty, and goodwill that Pen Resource Academy already has. This would help the school gain the trust of the public and exceed all academic standards expected.
Quick Development and Growth
The University was founded in two years and has since produced twenty-seven degree programs, four faculties, and a ground-breaking Center for African Medicinal Plants Research, among other things. The university’s determination to forge its own path, supported by this growth, demonstrates its maturity and potential for even greater success.

Deliberate thought went into naming North-Eastern University, Gombe, which reflects a long-term goal of building an organization that reflects the values and ambitions of the northeastern Nigerian area. This aim is embodied in the logo, which has a bull and lush land to indicate strength and prosperity, a book and pen to represent academic ability, and colours sky blue to represent boundless potential all guarded in protection. White is used to symbolize peace.

The institution is unwavering in its resolve to rank among the top 10 universities in Nigeria within its first ten years, according to Pro-Chancellor and Founder Dr. Sani Jauro (Danlawan of Gombe). All parties involved are working together to support this goal because they all think the university has what it takes to become a great institution.
