On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ Kaduna State University branch met and discussed the offers made by the Kaduna state administration.
Following lengthy discussions, Congress decided to halt the strike until an agreement between the union and the administration was signed.
The government showed goodwill during the discussions by promptly providing funds to pay the SIWES supervision allowance for five sessions and the 60% withheld salaries from September 2017.
A timeframe for the payment of the five (5) months of 2022 deferred salary, promotion arrears, earned academic allowance (EAA), pension remittance (2009 to 2019), death benefits, and group life insurance has also been agreed upon by the government.

The government also shown its commitment by allowing the university autonomy and implementing wage awards.
We would also like to use this occasion to express our gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, for his prompt response and leadership in resolving the concerns that sparked the strike.
Indeed, this is a change from the gloomy past when members suffered as a result of taking part in legitimate strike actions.
We thank the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Governor, the Commissioner of Education, the Commissioner of Sports, the University administration, and other interested parties for their contributions to a speedy resolution of the deadlock.
We also appreciate the support and understanding from our parents and students. Our colleagues deserve special recognition for their unshakeable and uncompromising solidarity and resolve throughout the strike action.
The union urges all academic employees to return to work and carry on providing the university community with their priceless services now that NEC has given its clearance.
