In September 2024, the Federal Government raised the allowance for corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000. The increased tariff has not yet been put into effect, despite numerous assurances and criticism since the increase.
Serving corps members and those enrolled in the program at the time of the September 2024 announcement of the increase, however, will be compensated retroactively.

Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, made this promise during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.
They are asking the new DG, “What about those that are going out now, are they going to receive it [backlog]?” after he stated that you will receive it. “He said,”
The minister said, “We have your details.” We’ll take care of the backlog and see to it that it gets paid. Even though it might not happen right away, Olawande promised that it would.
To the delight of the youth program participants, the Federal Government announced a new allowance for NYSC members, often known as corpers, in September 2024.
According to the Federal Government, the rise complied with the 2024 National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act.
However, despite repeated promises from government officials, the new stipend has not yet been implemented six months after it was announced.
However, Olawande said during the broadcast that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General Olakunle Nafiu asked corps members to anticipate the new allowance’s implementation in March.
When asked if the corps members will begin receiving their now-delayed allowance this month, the minister responded, “It will happen.”
The minister claims that fiscal concerns are to blame for the postponement of the new NYSC members’ pay.
“I’ve given this explanation multiple times. According to some, I constantly respond, “It’s a process.” It’s a procedure. But it’s a process, really. The line is from the government. You can’t do it by doing a corner piece. The youth development minister stated, “It wasn’t in the budget when the president announced it, and for certain agencies and parastatals, your salary must be in the budget before it is paid.
“Everything needs a budgetary allocation before anyone can approve it. However, the fiscal allocation is now complete. The procedure is complete, and it has been accepted. They can now begin making payments because it has been signed.
