Pastor Arrested in Connection with the Death of LASU Graduate.

Five suspects are still at large in connection with the death of 28-year-old Ogubode Adedamola, a 2024 graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), but the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a preacher and two other suspects.

In a statement issued on Friday, March 7, 2025, Command spokeswoman CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests.

Sherrif Adebayo, Omolara Ajisomo, and Pastor Whepetoji Sunday are among the people detained. Five more people have fled, and authorities are actively looking for them.

Police first dismissed social media rumours about potential ritualistic aspects and classified Adedamola’s case as a missing person case. CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, subsequently acknowledged that the matter had progressed to a suspected murder inquiry.

“After an initial investigation, this is now suspected murder rather than a missing person. We are putting a lot of effort into recovering the deceased’s body and determining what caused his death,” CP Jimoh stated.

To guarantee a comprehensive investigation, the matter has been turned over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The public is reassured by the CP that the Command is dedicated to finding a solution and holding everyone accountable. With concentrated attempts to locate the deceased’s remains and ascertain how he passed away, progress has been achieved,” he continued.

Additionally, he asked the victim’s friends, family, and the student body to maintain their composure and give the authorities the time they need to conduct a thorough investigation.

Before Adedamola vanished, investigators discovered that five suspects had taken money out of his bank account. Three of these have been taken into custody:

On Sunday, Pastor Whepetoji ₦70,000 was taken out of the victim’s account.

A church member named Sherrif Adebayo received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.

Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, Omolara Ajisomo’s children, were allegedly given ₦300,000 from the victim’s account after she was arrested for allegedly helping them escape to Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, two of the five other suspects who are thought to have escaped to Cotonou, are among those being actively sought by the police.

All of the guilty will be held accountable, according to CP Olohundare Jimoh.

“The Command will not give up on capturing all of the guilty parties. To guarantee that justice is done, the public will be informed of the investigation’s conclusions.

The proprietor of a campus café was Ogubode Adedamola, a Political Science Education graduate. Prior to being officially declared dead, he was reported missing on January 16, 2025.

Calls for immediate justice have been sparked by the community’s and pupils’ outrage over his tragic death.
