Police Shoot Delta State Poly SUG President at Night.

The president of Delta State Polytechnic’s Student Union Government (SUG) was shot and beaten by police late last night, in a startling turn of events that raised major questions about student safety and police behaviour.

According to witnesses, the incident happened at around ten o’clock in the evening when the president of SUG, a vocal supporter of student rights, was making his way back to campus from an event. According to reports, he was stopped by a patrol team under suspicious circumstances, which resulted in a confrontation. The student leader was hurt and in distress when shots were fired before anyone could properly comprehend the situation.

Since the announcement, the mood on campus has drastically changed. It is understandable that the incident has disturbed the students, as many have expressed their dread and fury. A fellow student, clearly distressed, stated, “It’s heartbreaking to see someone who fights for our rights become a victim of violence.” “We anticipate feeling secure, particularly at our own school. This shouldn’t occur.

Many people are doubting the police department’s statement, which claims the officers acted in self-defence. Both teachers and students are seeking responsibility, a comprehensive inquiry, and an explanation of what actually happened that evening.

The community is coming together to assist the SUG president while he recovers in the hospital. Peaceful demonstrations and vigils are being planned to support justice and pay tribute to his bravery. One kid declared, “We will not be silenced,” expressing the opinion of numerous others who believe that their views need to be heard.

The persistent problems with police contacts with civilians, especially in neighbourhoods that are already at risk, are brought home by this episode. We must all remain united in solidarity as the situation unfolds to make sure that our voices are not just heard but also taken into consideration.

The community at Delta State Polytechnic is holding its breath in the hopes of prompt justice and a time when students can stand up for their rights without worrying about violence. It is still unclear how we should respond to this terrible incident and what can be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We all need to participate in this conversation, which is only getting started.
