The administration of Redeemer’s University (RUN), located in Ede, Osun State, has denied rumours that a fire broke out on the school.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele confirmed in a statement sent by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Adetunji Adeleye, that the incident was a small-scale bush burning occurrence close to a remote bamboo forest and that neither the students nor their dorms were under danger.
Professor Akindele underlined that the university community worked with the State Fire Service to quickly put out the fire.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed displeasure with the dissemination of misleading information and refuted reports of a transformer explosion, pointing out that there was not a single transformer at the scene. He assured all parties involved that the fire, which started at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday, was successfully contained and did not pose a threat to people or property.
“The State Fire Service and university community members quickly put out the fire, which was just a case of bush burning close to a remote bamboo forest,” Akindele reaffirmed. He added that the university’s investment in fire safety equipment, including a sizable quantity of fire extinguishers, demonstrates its strong emphasis on public health and safety.
The Vice-Chancellor cautioned against rumourmongers who seek to sow division and fear, and urged the people to confirm information before disseminating unsubstantiated accusations.
