Schedule for the 2024 DELSU Convocation Ceremony Announced [UPDATED]

On behalf of the Senate, Governing Council, Staff, and Students of Delta State University Abraka, Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga kindly invites the public to her 16th convocation ceremony, which is set to take place as follows.

This is to inform all 2022/2023 graduates (Regular, Sandwich, SLT, Weekend, Part-time, and Affiliates), as well as their parents and guardians and the broader public, that the 16th Convocation Ceremony of Delta State University, Abraka, has been scheduled for the following: the awarding of diplomas, admission into first-degree programs, higher degree programs, and prizes.

Schedule of Events at the DELSU Convocation Ceremony

1) Day 1: Friday, 19th April, 2024

  • Jumat Prayers for Muslim members of the DELSU Community.

2) Day 2: Sunday, 21st April, 2024

  • Pre-Convocation Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Site II DELSU, Abraka, – (8.30 am).

3) Day 3: Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024

  • (a) Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference (10.00 am).
  • (b) Opening of Arts Exhibition- (1.00 pm).

4) Day 4: Wednesday, 24th April, 2024

  • Cultural Day (11.00 am).

5) Day 5: Thursday, 25th April, 2024 

  • (a) Alumni Day – (11.00 am).
  • (b) Convocation Drama (4.00 pm).

6) Day 6: Friday, 26th April, 2024 

Convocation Lecture (10.00 am).

7) Day 7: Saturday, 27th April, 2024 

  • (a) Commissioning of Projects (9.00 am).
  • (b) Award of Diplomas, First Degrees, Higher Degrees and Prizes
  • (C) Investiture of Professor Emeritus
  • (d) Conferment of Honorary Degree

8) Day 8: Tuesday, 30th April, 2024

Thanksgiving service on Founders’ Day at All Saints’ Anglican Chapel, Site III, DELSU, starting at 9:00 a.m.

ELEVATIONS

Diploma and First Degree Recipients must pay N5,000 for the academic gown rental alone, N10,000 for the Convocation Brochure, N13,500 for the Students’ Transcript, and N10,000 for the book The Story of DELSU at 30.

All graduates who want to pick up their academic attire must deposit their original Statement of Results (if applicable) and provide proof of payment for the academic gown rental at the faculty offices. Once the academic costumes are returned in acceptable condition, they will be given back to their respective owners by Friday, May 3, 2024. An academic gown that is not returned within the allotted time will be penalized N500 each day.

POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

  • Doctorate and Master’s degree recipients who have paid the required fees to the Secretary of the Postgraduate School may pick up their academic gowns and other belongings.

COLLECTION OF ACADEMIC GOWNS

  • Academic gowns and other goods are available for pickup beginning on Friday, April 19, 2024, and ending on Friday, April 26, 2024.

PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC GOWNS

  • Doctorate and Master’s degree holders must deposit N50,000 and N40,000, respectively, into the account shown as number 1 below to acquire academic robes. Additionally, they must deposit ten thousand naira (N10,000) into account number two below to purchase the book The Story of DELSU@ 30. Please disregard this advice if you have already made the payment.

Graduates of all degrees, including doctorate and master’s, should be aware that payment for the aforementioned things and the acquisition of academic gowns are required, regardless of attendance at the convocation ceremony.

It is also crucial to note that for ten thousand naira (N10,000) only, university alumni may purchase hard copies of the Convocation Brochure, Program, Vice-Chancellors’ Speech, and other materials. The University Account listed below is the account that is to be used to pay the N10,000. After completing a payment, do get in touch with us so that we may proceed appropriately.

It is recommended that parents, guardians, and invited visitors be at their seats by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the convocation.

Graduands should please take note of the following:

  • By 9:00 am, graduates must join the Convocation Procession.
  • It is planned that graduates from each faculty will take their seats in their designated area of the Convocation Arena.
  • Taking pictures and moving about without permission will not be permitted during the Convocation Ceremony. It is thus recommended that graduates finish this task before entering the convocation arena or hold off until after the ceremony. This is to guarantee the Convocation Ceremony runs well.
  • As the Academic Procession approaches and exits the Convocation Arena, graduates and invited visitors under the canopy in the Arena are asked to be courteous, stand up, and remain upright.
  • Graduands are expected to dress appropriately and adhere to the color code specified by their faculties.
  • To make it easier for graduates to pick up their degree certificates on the day of convocation, all graduates must start and finish the clearing procedure as soon as possible at their college, school, or faculty.
  • Graduates who wish to get copies of their students’ transcripts must supply valid email addresses.

In honor of the 16th University Convocation Ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor extends congratulations to all graduates, parents/guardians, stakeholders, and the whole university community.
