Six Students in Top 50 for $100,000 Prize

Six Nigerian Students in Top 50 for $100,000 Chegg.org Global Prize 2024

From over 11,000 submissions in 176 countries, six Nigerian students were shortlisted for the $100,000 Chegg.org Global Student Prize 2024. In its fourth year, this award honors young change-makers worldwide.

The Nigerian finalists are University of Benin Optometry student Okechukwu Clinton Ifeanyi, Obafemi Awolowo University Chemical Engineering graduate Bello Peace Olalekan, activist Joel Mordi, student mentor Jennifer Uchechukwu Obiorah, academic mentor Roseline Adewuyi, and Ibadan education advocate Karimot Odebode. Students have made major contributions to their professions and communities.

In 2021, Chegg.org and the Varkey Foundation introduced the Global Student Prize to honor outstanding students who are improving the world. All students 16 and older, including part-time and online students, may win.

Okayukwu Clinton Ifeanyi surmounted obstacles to succeed academically, become a health champion, and create the I-CARE Campaign for cataract surgery. Inspired by his missionary parents, Bello Peace Olalekan excelled in Chemical Engineering and founded Chemotronix, a carbon market solution. The Mordi Ibe Foundation, created by Princess Diana Legacy Award winner Joel Mordi, advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and refugee education, affecting over 500,000 pupils.

TeamUpcyclers, created by Jennifer Uchechukwu Obiorah, empowers underprivileged communities via waste-to-wealth projects, affecting thousands of students and various groups Gender equality advocate Roseline Adewuyi started the Roseline Initiative and has mentored over 6,000 girls, earning UN recognition. Education and gender equality campaigner Karimot Odebode launched the Black Girl’s Dream Initiative and represented global youth at the UN.

Many Nigerian students have made the Chegg.org Global Student Prize top 50 shortlist. Heather Hatlo Porter, Chegg’s Chief Communications Officer, thanked the finalists and noted their effect on a bright future. Varkey Foundation founder Sunny Varkey stressed the importance of education in improving the world and reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
