Stay on Campus Warning

Protest: Stay on Campus, Education Minister Says

On Monday, the National Universities Commission (NUC) advised against jeopardizing their lives.

Acting NUC Executive Secretary Chris Maiyaki sent the message to university vice-chancellors.

The Honourable Minister of Education has ordered all Nigerian university vice-chancellors to be informed of unknown organizations’ plot to protest nationally. The Federal Government respects Nigerians’ freedom to peaceful protest, but it worries about staff, students, and university property if people demonstrate.

“Consequently, the Honourable Minister has directed all Nigerian university Vice-Chancellors to take proactive steps to ensure the security and safety of staff and students. Vice-Chancellors should also make safety statements to staff and students. To minimize risk during the scheduled demonstrations, students should stay on campus to study.

I reiterate my warmest wishes and highest thoughts.

The move follows a countrywide protest from August 1 to 10, 2024.

The demonstration is trending on social media under #EndBadGovernance.

The president and police have asked teenagers to stop protesting.
