The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, effective November 5, 2024.
This decision comes after the government agreed to a partial settlement of four months’ withheld salaries, promising to pay 50% of the arrears. As of now, one month’s salary has already been disbursed.
The suspension, announced in a circular titled “Update on Indefinite Strike Action” and signed by NASU General Secretary Prince Peters Adeyemi and SSANU National President Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, will last for one month, allowing time for the government to fulfill the remaining payment.
However, the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) remains firm in its demands, with plans for continued protests. NAAT has given the government a two-week ultimatum to pay 50% of its own five-month salary arrears by November 13, 2024.
