Faith Nwonye, a 30-year-old educator at Landmark School Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been apprehended on suspicion of inducing unconsciousness in an eight-year-old student.

The school has been irrevocably closed, according to Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state commissioner for Education, who disclosed this during a press briefing in her office on Monday, May 20, 2024.

According to Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state commissioner for Education, the school has been irrevocably closed, who disclosed this during a press briefing in her office on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Chuma-Udeh stated that she had summoned the proprietor of the school and Nwonye to provide an explanation for the incident that resulted in the primary student’s violent beating.

“We were informed of this unfortunate incident by an illegal school in Mgbakwu, where a child was beaten to a coma over the weekend.” She stated, “We extended an invitation to the proprietor of the illegal school and the teacher who is alleged to have assaulted the child on behalf of the State Government.”

“We have referred the matter to the police for additional investigation while we await Mr Governor’s instructions.” In the interim, the school has been permanently closed due to its illegitimate existence. Any parent who enrols their child in an illicit school is doing so at their own risk.

“In Anambra, the proprietors of private schools consider anyone who operates an unapproved school to be a criminal.” The operation of an illegitimate school within the state is a criminal offence.

“Beating a child is a criminal offence., regardless of whether the school is legal.” The doctor has estimated that the child’s prospects of survival are 20%.

“The teacher will confront other institutions that violate child rights as soon as the police have finished their work.” “She will be subjected to the full force of the law as a result of her actions,” she stated.

“Violence against children, women, and any other individual is condemned in the state of Anambra.” It is not a component of this administration, and Mr. Governor is opposed to it.
