The “Best AI or AI-related Program” Award goes to ABU.

Today, February 17, 2025, was a virtual celebration of the day.

On the basis of its B.Eng. Computer Engineering (Artificial Intelligence Option), the university won the prize.

Additionally, the top university in the north took second place for its quality and influence on AI policies in higher education.

ABU received the honour because of the exceptional quality of the entries that its Department of Computer Engineering and the IIOE Nigeria National Centre, which is based there, submitted.

Prof. Nasiru Maiturare, Chairman of the prizes Selection Committee for the 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education, stated that four distinguished prizes were presented at the occasion. The awards were listed by Prof. Maiturare as follows:

Best AI Researcher in Higher Education, Best AI-Related Program, Best AI Application to Improve Teaching and Learning, and Best Institutional AI Policy in Higher Education.

Maiturare commended the institution on its outstanding achievement and informed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala of the good news in a notification for the award. He added that ABU’s commitment to promoting AI in higher education was valued by the organisers of Nigeria’s 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education and its National Coordinator, Prof. Peter Okebukola.
