The southwest region and federal government-run institutions are home to the top 10 universities in Nigeria, a well-known West African country.

The organization’s website states that the rankings were determined by looking at research outputs, non-academic significance, and alumni impact.

1. University of Ibadan

In the past, the university was a college of the University of London in the UK.

The institution was founded in 1948 as University College Ibadan, one of the University of London’s several colleges.

The University of Ibadan (UI) is the oldest degree-granting institution in Nigeria, having gained independence in 1962.

2. University of Lagos

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is a public research university located in Lagos state and was founded in 1962.

UNILAG is one of the first-generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in the country in major education publications.

3. University of Nigeria

The legendary African and first president of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe, founded the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in 1960.

The establishment of the university was motivated, according to the institution, by the need to generate highly skilled men and women who could meet Nigeria’s labor needs.

4. Obafemi Awolowo University

Nigeria’s Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a university owned by the federal government.

10. Federal University of Technology, Minna

Offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a variety of technology-related subjects, FUT Minna specializes in technological education.
