Following the platform’s brief closure in the United States, a rush of emotional videos hit social media, depicting TikTok users in tears and undergoing mental breakdowns. These people, many of whom had spent a significant amount of time and effort creating their TikTok presence, were sad, as if their entire world had crumbled.
The event, which sparked considerable worry among creators and users, was quickly addressed by TikTok and other sources. CBS News provides an update:
Washington — TikTok began restoring service to users in the United States following a brief and voluntary downtime. The business stated on Sunday that it was in the process of restoring access after President-elect Donald Trump promised to try to halt the ban by executive order on his first day in office.
TikTok thanked President Trump for ensuring that service providers would not face penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and enabling over 7 million small businesses to thrive. “It is a powerful defence of the First Amendment and opposition to arbitrary censorship. We will engage with President Trump to develop a long-term solution that maintains TikTok in the United States.”
The short outage acted as a sharp reminder of the platform’s significance to millions of users and its role in assisting small companies and content creators across the country.
