Types of Bad Teachers and How to Deal with Them.. The Mean teacher, discouraging, unknowledgeable, boring teachers.
There are five types of bad teachers that are encountered generally.
Some teachers can fall into many of these categories or they just might be slightly different.
But here are five general categories and how to deal with each one.
1. The Disorganized Teacher
Usually, their lessons and lectures are just hard to follow.
The class always goes off track. This is usually common with new teachers or those who have a ton of other obligations like a coach or someone who’s working on a higher degree.
The best way you deal with this type of teacher is to ask specific questions about the things you don’t understand.
Do not ask vague questions because then you’ll get the same disorganized answers that you got the first time.
Instead ask very specific questions, like cite a specific part of the textbook and once you get your answer just repeat it back and try to clarify whether you actually understood it correctly.
If this still doesn’t help, you can supplement your learning with a different resource that is much more well organized. or you could also try a tutor or maybe learn from friends in the class who seemed to understand the topic or concept.
2. The Unknowledgeable Teacher
It just seems clear that they don’t know that much about the subject. Or at the very least they’re not choosing to tell you very much about the subject.
Often this happens when that aspect of teaching wasn’t really their first choice of career so they’re not really putting that much effort into learning the things that are necessary to know.
Or they’ve just given up on teaching the stuff that’s actually harder but also necessary.

This kind of issue with the teacher can generally be addressed by asking them questions on a certain topic covered in class. or when you come across something pretty interesting in the textbook.
They’d be interested to know that somebody cares about the subject and likes it as much as they hopefully do.
Some teachers just feel like the kids don’t want to know so they just hold it in. But if they come across someone who genuinely seems interested, they’ll usually tell you everything you need to know.
Now, if this doesn’t really work out because they just literally don’t seem to know more than you do as a student who just reads a textbook, that’ is a kind of a problem that you can’t really fix on your end. You must find another teacher.
3. The Mean Teacher
This is the kind of teacher who is just mean to everybody even if you’re getting a good grade.
Having a person who is super mean to you every single day just isn’t a fun experience, and can definitely disrupt your interest in and learning about a subject.
The best course of action would be to just try to be nice to them. It’s hard to be nice to someone who is actively bitter and nasty towards you. But most teachers are in the teaching profession not because they want to do it.
Sometimes when someone’s been in the education field for too long, they would have probably seen too many horrible students and situations.
They may internalize that and start to become really disillusioned and just start being mean. So if you can try to get them to like you by demonstrating interest in the things they like, you can make yourself stand out as one of the good ones who is actually tolerable and then they’ll be nicer to you.
4. The Favouritism Type
This type of teacher is the one who plays favourites.
This is the kind of teacher who randomly picks a few chosen golden people at the beginning of the year and lavishes them with good grades and attention. They then are just very mean to either everyone else or a specific group of people who they’ve decided are bad and problem students.
The best approach to dealing with these teachers is not to try to be one of their favourites. Instead, be too smart to fail so you can not be a victim of favouritism.
5. The Boring Teacher
This is the type of teacher who just drones on and on and puts everybody to sleep.
To make yourself pay attention, try to find yourself a non-distracting activity that still allows you to keep your mind on the material. Make sure though that you don’t lose attention.

Ask them questions outside of class about the things that interest you or that maybe you didn’t catch because you were losing attention.
It’s possible that the teacher isn’t great at public speaking but does better in one-to-one or small group interactions.
They also might be maybe a little bit older, and out of touch with what interests students in a classroom atmosphere.
Asking them about the things that you find interesting will give them a better idea of what you actually want to know about.
