The Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially certified Ololade Ayelabola, a University of Lagos (UNILAG) alumnus, for breaking the record for the longest distance a model has walked on a catwalk.
On Monday, the accomplishment was revealed on GWR’s official website.
“On October 1, 2024, Ololade Ayelabola (Nigeria) achieved the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model, which is 125.11 km (77.74 mi),” according to the announcement.

Ololade set this record in order to encourage others and fashion students to push the envelope.
Her attempt, made at UNILAG’s Indoor Sports Centre, broke the previous record of 114.4 kilometres, which was achieved in Dublin, Ireland, in 1983 by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt.
Ayelabola posted her happiness on Instagram after the incredible achievement, inspiring people to follow their ambitions fearlessly. She wrote on social media, “Dare to dream and make your dream a reality.”
Ayelabola wore clothing from Nigerian designers, including a line from the UNILAG Theatre Arts Department, during her stroll.
Ayelabola had graduated from UNILAG with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the time of her record-breaking walk.
The former beauty queen told reporters in 2024 that she was inspired to break the record by the difficulties and prejudices models encounter at auditions, especially if they don’t fit the mould of the industry. “There is a belief that you can’t be successful in modelling unless you meet a specific height or appearance requirement. Because of these misconceptions, I’ve seen a lot of gifted models go unnoticed,” she said.
