The University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently welcomed a new class of students during its vibrant Matriculation Ceremony, a visually stunning display of academic jubilation. Out of almost 53,000 applications, an amazing 8,448 candidates were formally initiated into the studentship for the combined academic sessions of 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 on February 2, 2024, at the Jelili Omotola Hall.
A Joyful and Inspiring Day
The Ceremonial Matriculation: A Stately Event
The halls were crowded with matriculants, who were dressed tastefully and represented all faculties as well as the College of Medicine. As the University Procession made its grand entrance to the podium, their joy was evident.
The Formal Documentation
The ceremony was formally opened by Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS. The students were immediately given the Matriculation Oath by acting registrar Mrs. Olakunle Makinde, which marked their official admission into the several faculties.
Honored Guests: A Special Remark
Mr. Bolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, graced the occasion and offered insightful guidance and experiences. He underlined that to have a prosperous future, goals must be made and relentlessly pursued.
A Surprising Act of Kindness
Commissioner Ogunlende gave the class a fun twist when he asked a question to gauge their level of attention. A brand-new laptop was awarded to Ms. Inioluwa Akinboboye of the Department of History & Strategic Studies for her accurate response.
