A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has described what happened to him after he got into a fight with a student who allegedly tore his clothes.
The lecturer described the circumstances leading up to the altercation in a post that was extensively shared on X (formerly Twitter).
He clarified that a student was taking a video in the middle of a pathway when he was strolling around campus following a lecture.
He asked her to move aside with a gentle tap on her shoulder as he passed her. He then heard her say, though, “Who does he think he is? This worried him, so he went back to see if she was one of his students and asked her to remove the video because he was afraid it was being recorded. She allegedly reacted angrily by biting his arms when he asked for her phone.
He clutched onto her hand to keep her from running away, which made her more hostile and caused her to rip his clothes and hit him.
The Lecturer Said:
“I had just left Hall 19 after Dr. Ebekue’s class. As I was walking, I noticed a girl recording a video on the window hood, posing in the middle of the walkway. I gently tapped her and asked her to move aside.”
“After a few steps, I heard her say,‘Who does this man think he is?’ I turned to check if she was a student of mine and to ensure she deleted any footage of me.”
“When I reached for her phone, she bit me on both arms. I held her left hand to stop her from running away.” “At that point, she completely lost control, tearing my clothes, slapping my face, and scratching me—all of which I endured calmly, much to my own admiration, if I may say so.”
They had just left the security office, where the student said he was trying to strip her in the faculty, the professor said. He said that her mother teaches in the engineering department, which he thinks may have had an impact on her behaviour. This is how it happened, my Theatre Family. We’ll see how this develops.
His comments came soon after the student recounted her own version of what happened and claimed that the instructor had touched her inappropriately.
