His appearance came after a hotly disputed election at the University’s 230th Senate meeting, which took place at the University Auditorium on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
With 164 votes, Professor Stanley Chidi Udedi of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biosciences, came in second place with 146 votes, behind Professor Obidimma, a professor in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law.

Additional competitors include Prof. Felix Afamefuna Onyegbule of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, who received 8 votes and finished fourth, and Prof. Onyenmechi Johnson Afonne of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, who placed third with 83 votes.
Prof. Obidimma was the Deputy Provost (Humanities) of the CPGS before to his election. He brings to his new position years of academic leadership and administrative expertise. When Engr. Prof. Philomena Igbokwe’s term finishes on March 30, 2025, he will take over.
The university community hopes that under Prof. Obidimma’s direction, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka’s postgraduate scholarship and research excellence would continue to grow.
