Varsities will receive N2.8 billion and Polys N1.9 billion,TETFund.

Each university would receive N2.8 billion, with polytechnics receiving N1.9 billion and colleges of education receiving N2.1 billion, according to Sonny Echono, the fund’s executive secretary.

This was revealed by Arch. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the TETFund, during a strategic workshop on the 2025 disbursement guidelines held in Abuja on Thursday with leaders of beneficiary institutions.

According to Echono, each institution will receive N2,560,562,352.66 under the current disbursement cycle under normal allocation, plus an extra N300,000,000.00 for zonal allocation, for a total of N2,860,562,352.66 per university.

According to the Executive Secretary, all 2025 Physical Infrastructure Development funding will go towards improving, repairing, and renovating deteriorating infrastructure in recipient institutions in accordance with orders from the Federal Government.

“You were informed of this earlier so that you may conduct extensive consultations and get your projects ready in advance. It was also suggested that you use your physical planning units and/or consulting units to help with project preparation. The Fund has greatly expanded its funding for research and innovation, academic staff training and development, and manuscript and book creation under the current distribution cycle.

Additionally, it has greatly expanded the number of institutions that are recipients of its designated and special projects.

According to him, the allocation for the 2025 payment is organised as follows: “The 91.08% total direct disbursement is composed of 42.18% special direct disbursement and 48.90% annual direct disbursement.” Stabilisation funding make up 0.20% and designated projects 8.72%. Accordingly, the yearly direct distribution has been distributed to each beneficiary institution category as follows.

“The establishment of mechanised farms in certain universities, increased funding and expanded participation in the Special High Impact Program to complete the National Library building in Abuja, and accelerated provision of student hostels through Public-Private Partnerships and direct construction are among the key initiatives under the special direct disbursement category. These initiatives fulfil the President’s promise to Nigerian students and advance our institutions’ plans.”

The 2025 disbursement guidelines also include other important areas of focus, such as providing alternative power to specific beneficiary institutions to alleviate current challenges with energy costs, adopting medical simulation and technology to improve curriculum delivery and patient care, and expanding infrastructure to increase student intake for physicians, nurses, chemists and dentists in our universities and colleges of medicine.

“Addressing campus security, facilitating catastrophe recovery, and finishing previously troubled projects are additional goals. The National Research Fund, institutionalisation of R&D, growing collaborations, Research Meets Industry (Triple Helix program), and commercialisation of research findings will all continue to support research and innovation.

He said that the TETFund is also investing heavily in agricultural and laboratory development. The recently authorised central multifunctional research laboratories in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt, as well as the construction of two new ones, have received additional financing.

“There will be more funding for the current agricultural laboratory and demonstration farms in addition to the establishment of three new ones. We will finance the modernisation of engineering labs and workshops in colleges of education, universities, and polytechnics under specific projects.

Additionally, our polytechnics’ National Skills Development/TVET program will receive more funds. The Diaspora Outreach/Exchange Program, the Staff Support Fund for colleges of education, universities and polytechnics, the provision of electric tricycles for campus mobility and the Student Startup/Innovation Grants are a few of the recently launched intervention lines.

He added that the Fund is creating 12 new Entrepreneurship for Innovation Hubs in education colleges and polytechnics, and that its TERAS platform seeks to modernise and digitise educational institutions in accordance with international standards. As we continue our partnerships and subscriptions to these learning management systems, we have continuously urged beneficiaries to utilise the platform to its fullest potential.

“Institutions are asked to cultivate collaborations with the private sector for facility management and infrastructure development, beginning with student residence halls, as part of our commitment to lessen dependency on government funding.”
