With ₦2.5 billion, Yusuf Secures Certificates of Kano Graduates.

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has paid Near East University in Cyprus €1.4 million (₦2.5 billion), which was left unpaid by the previous administration, ending a lengthy certificate dispute that had affected 84 medical students.

The students, who received their degrees between 2015 and 2019, were unable to pursue professions or higher education because they were stuck overseas without their academic credentials. In order to negotiate the release of the long-held documents, Governor Yusuf personally flew to Cyprus on December 9, 2024, to meet with the administration of the university in Lefkosia.

A significant step forward for the impacted graduates and their families, Ibrahim Adam, the governor’s Special Adviser on Information, stated that the diplomas will shortly be sent to the Kano State Scholarship Board through the Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey.

In addition to depriving Kano of their essential knowledge in crucial professions like medicine and nursing, Yusuf said, “this situation had delayed the dreams of many promising individuals.” “A key component of our development agenda is education, which our administration is dedicated to making a priority.”

Adam went on to say that the governor’s prompt action not only fixed a persistent problem in the field of education but also gave Kano State’s young people new hope.

“This milestone is an investment in the future of our people and our state, and it goes beyond the issuance of certificates,” he stated. “Kano stands to gain from these graduates’ knowledge, abilities, and contributions to vital sectors now that they can fully engage in the workforce.”

He commended Governor Yusuf’s steadfast dedication to educational reform, saying that his leadership keeps creating opportunities for youth and establishing the groundwork for a more developed and affluent Kano.
