Young African Woman Gets $328,000 MIT Scholarship, First in Village to Go to University

Justine Akorfa Dagadu, a young Ghanaian lady, made history by earning a $328,000 scholarship to study at the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), making her the first person from her town to attend university.

Justine, who comes from the impoverished village of Agbogbloshie in Accra, received a full four-year scholarship worth $82,000 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and International Development at MIT.

Justine highlighted her incredible path from a low-income family to one of the world’s best colleges on Facebook.

She is the oldest of three children, with her father a retired driver and her mother selling local produce to help support the family.

Justine attended Keta Senior High School (KETASCO), excelling in General Science and graduating in the top 1% of her class in 2019.

Financial constraints initially hindered her pursuit of further studies.

However, her aspirations revived when she joined the Young Achievers Foundation Ghana (YAF Ghana) Scholars Program in 2021. This program helped her unlock her true potential.
