Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition 2024/2025
The Asido Foundation is now accepting entries for the 5th edition of the Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition, honoring the memory of its pioneer Project Manager, Jemila Abubakar. This annual competition focuses on critical mental health issues and fosters awareness and innovation among Nigerian undergraduates.
Theme:
“Bridging the Gap: Innovative Solutions for Mental Health Support in African Tertiary Institutions”
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be an undergraduate in a Nigerian tertiary institution (universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, or schools of nursing).
- Provide proof of current studentship.
- Submit an essay that is at least 70% original (plagiarism checks will be conducted).
- Sign the Asido Foundation’s “Unashamed Pledge.”
Essay Guidelines:
- Word count: 750 to 1,500 words.
- Submissions must include:
- Recent passport photograph.
- Evidence of current studentship.
- A signed copy of the “Unashamed Pledge” (Download here).
Prizes:
- 1st Place: N200,000
- 2nd Place: N150,000
- 3rd Place: N100,000
- The Top 15 entrants will receive mentorship through the JAME 2025 Fellowship Program.

- Attach the required documents (passport photo, proof of studentship, signed pledge).
